There are 10 “Standardized” Medicare Supplement Plans. Standardized means that the coverage is identical. Different insurance companies charge different premiums for the exact same coverage. For example, Supplement Plan F with one company is the same coverage as Supplement Plan F with another company. The differences are the premium, the insurer’s rating, how long the insurance company has been in the market, and rate increases.
Medicare Supplement PLAN F
Medicare Supplement Plan F happens to be the most popular plan, because it is the most comprehensive of the 10 Medicare Supplement Plans. It pays 100% of your Medicare Part A and Medicare Part B deductibles, copays, and co-insurance.
Medicare Supplement Plan F also covers doctor Excess Charges. What is that? Doctors who accept Original Medicare are allowed to charge an additional 15% above what Medicare approves.
With Medicare Supplement Plan F and Medicare Supplement Plan G you have fixed costs for your healthcare. There are no surprises.
Medicare Supplement Plan F will be available for purchase until Dec. 2019.
Medicare Supplement PLAN G
Supplement Medicare Supplement Plan G is very similar to Medicare Supplement Plan F. The only difference is that it does not pay for the Medicare Part B annual deductible ($183 in 2017). You will be responsible for that annual deductible.
